The Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities (TCDD) works to create change so that people with developmental disabilities (DD) can be independent, productive, and fully integrated into their communities. Each year, TCDD funds approximately 35–45 grants statewide in areas such as education, employment, transportation, health and wellness, asset building, cultural competency, and long-term services and supports. Grants include demonstration projects that test new ideas and build the capacity of local communities to support people with disabilities. Projects also focus on technical assistance to service providers and agencies, and training for people with disabilities and their families to advocate for themselves. When funds are available, TCDD issues a Request for Proposals (RFP) and publishes the RFP on our website at www.tcdd.texas.gov. TCDD is currently accepting proposals for the RFPs listed below.
RFP: Youth Leadership Development Projects
TCDD will provide funding for organizations to develop youth leadership development projects. The projects will develop experientially-based programs that will support youth with DD to learn and share information, acquire leadership skills, and develop long-range advocacy plans. TCDD may award a maximum of $125,000 per year to three organizations for up to five years. The deadline to submit a proposal is November 30, 2016.
RFP: DD Policy Fellows
TCDD will fund organizations to hire and support a full-time DD Policy Fellow. Organizations that receive funding will support Fellows to develop a deep understanding of policy affecting people with DD and also build skills to promote self-determination and self-advocacy. TCDD may award up to $67,500 per year, per organization, for up to two organizations, for up to two years. The deadline to submit a proposal is December 1, 2016.
RFP: Outreach & Development
TCDD will provide funds for groups of people who belong to specific racial or ethnic groups and who are providing certain types of services and supports to people with disabilities of the same race or ethnicity. Groups applying for these grants focus on improving access to culturally competent supports and services. TCDD expects to award up to three $10,000 grants per year, each lasting up to 12 months.
