Beyond Willpower—A Research-Based Approach to Changing Your Behavior

Workshop Objective

You want to change a behavior.  Perhaps you want to quit something… quit smoking, quit speaking before you think, quit saying yes when you mean no.  Or, maybe you want to start something… start eating your vegetables, start delivering hard feedback, start making sales calls.  Whatever the behavior change, you’ve been told by parents, teachers, coaches and motivators the key is willpower:  “If you want it enough and push yourself hard enough, you can change anything.”

Sadly, few things fail as routinely as willpower—which is why most New Year’s resolutions don’t survive January.  So, how do you increase your odds at successfully changing?  Behavior research may provide the keys to success.
