Are you looking for an incredible professional development opportunity? The American Association of Grant Professionals (AAGP) is proud to be hosting our 11th Annual National Conference for all grant professionals.
This year's conference will be held on November 4-7, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency hotel in Austin, TX.
Several years ago, our annual conference quickly became known as "the" premier training event for Grant Writers, Grant Managers, Development Directors, Executive Directors and anyone who works in any capacity with grants.
For our 11th annual conference, we are pleased to announce the United States Department of Education will present our keynote address. We will also have a representative from the Lance Armstrong-LiveStrong Foundation provide a featured presentation as well as David C. Guth, Jr., CEO of Centerstone America and the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation. There are over 40 workshops being presented on a multitude of topics. We have confirmed a United States Department of Agriculture speaker and a Grants.gov speaker for our workshops-just to name a few! This year's workshop proposals were some of the best we have ever received. Our pre-conference workshops will also provide great information and training. We are confident that all the workshops will be at a caliber that is pleasing to all attendees.
Last year, we implemented SIGS-Special Interest Groups- in our organization. We have eight specialized areas that allow members to network with persons who are working in their specialized interests. At the conference, we will provide workshops that will specifically address issues faced by each of the SIGS.
Our Welcome Reception on Wednesday, November 4th is sure to be a favorite of the conference attendees. We kick off the conference with an event to bring old friends back together and provide an opportunity for first timers to meet and greet with fellow conference attendees.
The field of Grantsmanship is often a lonely one. Many organizations only have one person in their office that works with grants. Many people have indicated one of the most valuable lessons they have learned from our annual conferences are informational tidbits they have picked up from their colleagues during the various networking opportunities. It will be a fun evening of music and delicious food. More details will be available on our website in the near future.
We know this year is a particularly difficult year for people to obtain funding for staff development. In recognition of this tough economic time, we have NOT increased our pricing from 2008. This is a fantastic deal because it includes five meals and the welcome reception! Additionally, we have secured great pricing at the Hyatt hotel. The room rate is only $175 a night. This is approximately $50 less a night than what is currently available outside of our room block rate. Lastly, we have agreed to (once again) coordinate a room-share program at the national office. If you are interested in sharing a room with another conference attendee-in an effort to reduce the cost to attend-we will connect people that wish to do this.
If you have not yet set for the GPC exam, this is an excellent opportunity to do so. We will be offering the GPCI (Grant Professional Certification Institute) exam on November 7 and 8 near the hotel. This is a great time to set for the exam as you will be out of the office, have paid for airfare and will have a few days to "cram" with fellow test-takers. During the conference, we will be offering several workshops that relate to the GPC exam.
So, mark your calendar now to attend AAGP's 11th Annual National Conference in Austin, TX on November 4-7, 2009.
